Jason Statham update!

Statham has been doing the rounds lately promoting his new film Hummingbird (out here in the States renamed as Redemption) which comes out this weekend June 28th.
For us here at the blog it's one of our most anticipated releases as it seems to blend Stath like action with an early 80s Bob Hoskins style gritty London movie. Cinematic gold in other words.
Here's a great interview he did for MTV where he actually goes in depth on Redemption, Fast 7, Expendables 3 and where he sees himself now.

For those who have read our article 'Parker and let's get serious about Statham' you'll know that we have been supporting Statham's attempts to push his acting and work with interesting writer/director teams. It's nice, here, to see, finally, on this round of interviews, people asking him about precisely that. The slow ones will catch up, just remember we saw his genius first.

He also mentions, again, about wanting to do an action comedy and a pairing between him and Will Ferrell sounds amazing! Of course, if that doesn't work out, he could always try Jimmy Fallon with whom he stretched his comedy chops AND his arm wrestling skills recently on the late night talk-show.

and the last bit of info we have on the future of Stath is that while he may never be asked to don the tux of James Bond (because the producers are fools!), he may not have to as he has been pegged to star in a $35 million dollar British action film based on the Bulldog Drummond spy novels. Books which Ian Flemming himself said were an inspiration for Bond.

The film, Bulldog Drummond: Hero for Hire is currently on hold because they have been attempting to build a workable studio in Bahrain were some of the action set pieces will take place. Also where the producers of the film are trying to get a tasty tax rebate.

Jason, if he is involved, is probably thankful for the delay though because what with Heat, Homefront, Ex3 & Fast 7 on his plate already it would seem impossible to squeeze another film into that schedule but, we'll see! Just as long as he keeps making them, I'll keep watching them and applauding like an insane person!

Jason Statham, not slowing down for a second, was snapped on the set of his Heat remake yesterday in New Orleans and boy doesn't he look happy about that fact!

Before there's any confusion, this is a remake of the 1986 film Heat starring Burton Reynolds (not the Robert De Niro, Al Pacino shout fest from 1995). The film concerns a security man from Las Vegas having to go up against the mob after a friend of his is badly beaten.
Both the original and this remake are written by renowned screenwriter William Goldman, knowing The Stath a bit by now I would say this is one of the reasons for taking the gig.
Another reason he initially signed on was the supposed presence of Brian DePalma as director. As that fell through it is now being directed by action maestro, Expendables 2 helmer and probably Stath pal, Simon West.

Jason is seen here on the left wearing a "fuck off paparazzi cunt" look that's very in right now.

His co-star, pictured above, is, as we reported earlier, Modern family's Sofia Vergara who will also be seen this year stretching her action muscle (which is probably located somewhere in the thighs) in Machete Kills.
In Heat she plays the character DD, originally portrayed by Deborah Rush.

Things HEAT up between Jason Statham and Sofia Vergara

Clearly the poor box office returns on action in early 2013 is not slowing down, Doc and The Kid favourite, Jason Statham and, personally, we couldn't be happier.
Along with British drama Hummingbird 

and Sylvester Stallone penned and produced, 70s throw-back actioner, Homefront

Statham looks set to complete his trilogy of films beginning with H with a remake of Burt Reynold's 1986 film Heat.
Now ask me about remakes in any other genre or, more or less, starring anyone else and I am flat against them but, I think, Statham proved himself succesful in the remakes of Death Race and The Mechanic, they have original screenwriter (and Hollywood legend) William Goldman writing again (he wrote the novel and the screenplay in '86), Simon West (Con Air, Expendables 2) directing, Statham producing and frequent Stath collaborator, martial arts legend and awesome fight director Cory Yuen orchestrating the fisticuffs. Which, for me, is quite the line up. Where do I buy my ticket? How soon can I see this then? I am drooling as I type this.

Do you want to add to that list someone who will definitely make your ears and something else, prick up?
Well it seems after steaming up the screen with Jennifer Lopez in Parker that Jason can't leave the lovely Latino ladies alone because, announced today, Modern Family hottie Sofia Vergara will be starring opposite the British bulldog in Heat.
Not familiar with her? Well here she is...

Now you're sure this is going to be a hit, right?

That's right she is also starring in Robert Rodriguez's follow up to Machete later this year and apparently theres some added bonuses to her assets that only a classy director like Rodriguez knows how to utilise. Makes Rose McGowen's leg gun in Planet Terror look positively tame, right?

This article was a pleasure to write because after the testicle kicking that action took over the last couple of months it looks like these fine folks, at least, are not going down without a fight!
